I personally have never owned a pure hunting dog, but have hunted over beagles and Brits. Always thought of getting one though.

The camp next to my husband's camp run dogs and when they get closer and closer to our camp while on my stand hunting.....I get ready just in case. I don't like to shoot a running deer tho. I want to make a good placement on my shot. At my camp about 10 years ago I had a doe to run right past me and chose not to shoot...it's tongue was hanging out...I have also heard that if you kill a deer that has been running for awhile that the meat will be real tough. Have any of you hunters heard of this?

Yes,that deer will be the nastiest meat you have ever eaten......The smell, the taste...Just not worth the shot with a hard runned deer...
