You will get some great advice/suggestions here. I am new to traditional archer too, so I cannot be of much help. Welcome to a sport of a life time.

Welcome Zach, glad to see another young man wanting to get into this great sport.
I'm not sure where you are from. But if you don't already know anyone that is into shooting a bow, I would recommend finding a decent archery shop and just go in and talk to them.
We have a lot of folks that could help you here and would be more than willing. I'd talk to a shop, but don't buy, then come in here and let us know some of your particulars, such as what they said your draw length was, what pound they thought you could pull and anything else they tell you.
Folks in here will then be able to help more with the right information. I say don't buy right away until you have plenty of facts.
Just let us know and we will help you all we can.
Welcome aboard.

Like Mike said Zach,,talk to the pro shops, let them know you are new to this and you want to keep it simple and not get extravagant. Bowtech is the main archery tech here and has a vast knowledge of traditional archery, if one of us can`t steer you in the right direction I am sure he will. Listen to everything he tells you and you will be fine and enjoy getting into the sport.

Like Hoosier said, Bowtech is the trad guy here. He has been a great help to me. He helped me to find a nice recurve at a good price. Like Mike and Hoosier said, go to a shop to get "fitted" to your length, etc.

Hey buddy !....you got mail As I said in the PM , I do recommend a take down so that you can grow into it. But the problem is usually money for a young guy Thats why I sent you the link for the AIM take down. I have one and it's a great youth bow The biggest thing is to know how much you can pull If you have no way at all to know for sure then I would say that your best bet would be to FIRST....get to a place that can check that out for you. I liked the fact that you knew you draw length and that tells me that 30 - 35# on a traditional bow would be fine for you...perhaps more towards the 35# at first Keep in mind that traditional bows are measured at 28" so a 30# bow @ 22" might only be 16# , making a 35# @28" would be 21pounds. 21# on a trad. bow is pretty rugged for some fellows your age If you can handle (and that doesn't mean you can just pull it back) more , then I would suggest ebay at first. When checking your draw weight , make sure you can hold it at full draw for 1 min. before letting down. If you can do it easily then go higher. If not , then go down in weight. If you need anymore help just shout out
