The spitfire would have to be a 10 with me , since I have never seen a head that had all of its good points or lacked so few bad points by comparism
As far as wounding...
The mechanical head (top shelf head design types) are no more prone to wounding than a fixed blade head.
When mechanicals started coming out near 20 years ago , there wasnt a good head to be found.
Today there are still alot that I wouldnt consider shooting but there are more than a few that I would use without concern.
Mechanical heads got a bad rap from day one due to manufactures rushing anything to market that they felt could sell , such as the Puckett bloodtrailer.
But there are enough heads out there today which are quality products and allow the bowhunter to shoot with comfort and confidence.
The Mechanical head is a more apt killer than the fixed head for one reason...huge cutting area.
By comparism to the spitfire , there is no fixed head manufactured that comes close to it's cutting surface.
Mechanical heads can and do fail but it is more by design of the head than to say that all heads can fail.
The Nap shockwave is about as fail proof a head as you will find in that it is designed to avoid cartwheeling on hard angled shots.
I tested the shockwave when it was first released and it was amazing in its performance.
I have first hand witnesses that will attest to the fact that I took a fallow deer at a 3degree angle with the shockwave head.
This is a shot that most chisel/trocar fixed head designs would have not been able to attain entry on.
I wish they made that shockwave with the spitfire retension system
Anyway....dont count all mechanical heads out because you met someone (or alot of people) that had bad luck.
I have met many people that curse mechanicals because they lost a deer to one.
But once I have found out what they were useing for a head , it is always typical of that head design.
I have never heard evidence of a deer being lost to a good design , just to the poor designs
Thats why I am pulling up my older test submissions.
I dont want anyone to find out the hard way , what is a bad design
