All our Bear hunting is done using spot and stalk as well as calling . No bait or swinging around in a tree stand . Our best day this spring our hunters view 21different bears . Some of those bear are shown above . Baiting for bear is illegal here in BC . But on the other hand , you won't see that kind of traffic at bait stations . We prefer to go were the bears are not wait for them to come to you . We experienced a 98% success rate this past spring with one regular client going home without a bear - because he is looking for a bigger bear than he had already taken with us . He come every year several times . The other hunter to go home without a bear rug - missed 3 nice bears during his hunt with us . Everyone enjoyed their hunt and will be back . Most are already planning their 2006 hunt . Regards Bullet

98% success rate and 100% opportunity rate is pretty impressive. I can see why you have repeat business.

Baiting is not an alternative in NY either .
I had an intrest in learning how to call but never got around to doing it.
Any helpful advise on this practise ?

I always use Fawn Bleat when calling Bears . I can't remember the terran in NY state but if you have logging roads that a may be seen crossing - just jump on the distress call . Sound like a fawn that has been hit by a car . Or in the bush you want to sound like a hurt of lost fawn . Sound eratic and excited . It will trigger the bears killer instinct - they will coming with every intention of killing a fawn . It works . Regards Bullet

"and they will come in with the intention of killing a fawn" And instead there will be a bowhunter (which are far tastier )

I think hunting at bait sites produces great trophies and is not as easy as it seems. It depends on what province you hunt also.We have no problems seeing several bear at one site as this pic shows and these bears are quality as you see in the pic.It allows a hunter to take his pick and not the first one that comes along. The prov. of N.S. has no Spring season which produces strong healthy herds as seen here. Fact - Baiting is far from easy, Perhaps the biggest advantage I see in baiting is that,it allows the hunter time to assess size and stature. This is advantageous for the trophy hunter, thus diminishing the odds of falling victim to ground shrink. This pic was taken 3 weeks into the hunting season. We also start baiting 6 weeks before the open season and gives us plenty of time to pick and choose our most popular sites and keep away from areas with signs of sows and cubs. We also scout in the Spring for new areas. We have a total of 150 bait sites, not in the same area,we have several areas we manage and maintain - Results- Mature Adult Bears and Happy Hunters - We also live with our hunters and get to know each and everyone. We sometimes smell like bears, but thats because we are doing our work. All our Bear hunting is done using spot and stalk as well as calling . No bait or swinging around in a tree stand . Our best day this spring our hunters view 21different bears . Some of those bear are shown above . Baiting for bear is illegal here in BC . That would be an awsome sight, sitting in a tree and seing all those bears down below.
I've never been on a bear hunt but I can imagine that would be an awsome experience.

Yes,Mike we have the know how when it comes to bringing in large bears. We had bear sightings running at 150% and success at 100% and I guess thats what draws hunters back every year. The largest we've taken was the 675 lber so far and that bear would go in the BC records no problems-but it was taken with a 338 Win. and not a bow as needed, to be recorded in BC books. This bear will take a large size griz forum to be mounted on as a half body mount.

Nice bears bullet, what kind of dogs are these? looks like they enjoy bear hunting. I had a buddy in the Smithers area who had bear dogs like these, but forget the name of the breed. They meant business when it came to bears.

Hey Bigfoot , That's Roy a english terrior - he only get to play if their is a wounded bear to deal with . He hates bears with a passion . I won't let my cougar hounds be used on bears . Actually they were trained not to even slow down for a bear sent . How do you feela's back their measure your bears ? Must be nose tip to Hind feet . Thats a good gathering of bears at your bait station , they wouldn't do that here . Not even in a dump would they gather like that . Whats the skull measurements of those bears ? Regards Bullet

I thought they were English terriers but wasn't sure. they make good bear trackers I have heard.its bad when they wound them.We have only had one bear wounded and never did find it after it got into a large swamp. The bait sites give hunters that perfect shot and the bears don't go more than 50 yrds from the sites and they like the death moans to finalize their adrenaline rush. we measure from nose to tail- skulls range from 18 to 21 inches. This last monster's skull measures 21 1/2 inches, and has to dry for 3 months,so it'll shrink some. We have had a few in past years in the 17in.range from dry sows. We keep close watch on whats happening in the sites and if we see any signs of sows with cubs we move from that area.We look for the largest tracks and damage done then we know we're in business. We get to bait for 6 weeks before any hunters show up on the opening day.We have the whole province to pick and choose. We have two large areas which borders wildlife santuaries which gives us a fresh supply year after year. thats a bonus to any hunting area. The other areas we hunt border large cut outs with large meadows and beaver dams, and big timber areas.
