This is prolly one of the few game species that I havent hunted, but none the less Im going here in 2 weeks to try my hand at it. My best friend got permisson to hunt a 16000 acre ranch that is having a hog problem. Well most of my hunting has to do with spot and stalk.I have never been to this piece of property so I was planning on doing some spot and stalk, but I am not sure if this is the best way to go at it. Do you agree with the spot and stalk or do you think I should go at it at a different angle. Thanks

Well, I like you have never been hog hunting, so I can't give you any ideas.
I'm sure that BT will pop in from time to time and he can probably shed some light on your question.
Good luck to you on your hunt and let us know how it went.

Where is the question ....I'll start Packing right now! If you dont have alot of time and want a hog would suggest doing the following. First day do alot of walking and look for any water at all. once you have the water you will have the pigs and all you have to do is look for wallows or rubs on the trees to find out where they most like to stay. Rubs are going to be trees that are covered in mud from 1' to three' off the ground. Sometimes you find them and sometimes you dont but its just something else to look for as you scout. Best way to hunt them is on stand. They have great noses so its up the tree with you if you want your shot If there are no trees then you should take a pop up (IMO) as thier noses are what is going to ruin your hunt if you have the wind at your back. Best advise...Make some sour Mash from Corn and dump it everyday you hunt. If there are hogs around they will be on it by day two provided they cut the wind. You make sour mash by filling a bucket 3/4 full of corn and toping it off with water. five days or more in the sun will make it ferment and your ready to go. If you cant get hot days to sour the mash then I would suggest a bag of corn and a couple bottles of vanella exstract. sling the vanella all over the surrounding brush and dum the corn. Make sure you bring alot cause they will wipe it clean at night (check you state regs) If regs dont allow for baiting then I suggest the vanella exstract by a wallow or stream and a blind on the down wind side. Forget trying to call them....waste of time IMO Best of luck guy and please get some so we can see some new pics! Oh....one more thing. Use a big broadhead because they seal up like a zip lock bag after being hit sometimes and they can run darn near as fast as a deer when stuck
