I went tues. evening to do a little fishing. I got on the water around 5:30 or 6pm. I ran about 5 mins. up into the river to some pillars that are underneath the surface and managed to pull 1 small largemouth off a tree with a spinner bait. I got several bites around the pillars, but never set the hook on one. They seemed to be toying with it. I then moved to a rock bluff and got a few bites but didnt catch anything till the sun was almost behind the horizon. I managed to pull two in the 2lb range off of some loose rocks along the bluff.
I moved spots again to some rip rap where I usually manage to catch one or two at, but never got a hit. I moved and hit another bluff with no luck. I kept running between 2-3 places that I know the fish are, but I just had to time it right to catch them there. Between spots, I would stop and fish different areas, just to kill time and try them out. I managed to pull another small one, but it was almost a waste of time, it was so small.
I then moved to the last spot for the evening as it looked like the bottom was about to drop out and I wanted to hit it before I went. I caught a couple that were in the 2lb range and let them go. I made another cast and felt the tale tale thump of a bite. I cranked up my slack and was about to set the hook when my line went completely slack. I thought the fish was swimming towards me and I cranked up that slack as fast as I could. All of a sudden, there was a humongous tug on the line and I set the hook. Well, being used to catching those small ones all night, I commenced to trying to ski the fish to the boat. It made it to the boat and I said, "Another small one". About that time my line started ripping from the reel and the fish made one more run under the boat.
I got control again and got the fish to the side. Having forgot my net I had to lip it, boy was I surprised. This was a nice fish. I figured it to be in the 4lb. range. I got my one and only pic of the night with this one. I released her after the pic and continued to fish. I caught one more small one and then decided to leave when I felt the first rain drops.
It took the fish a little while to turn on or me a while to find them, but I was happy with what I caught. Below is the pic of the biggest one. I wish I had a pic of them all, but I was more interested in fishing than getting pics of fish in the 2lb class.
