Do you have an ice fishing pole, Michi? The guy I bought some ther rods from, makes ice fishing poles too. It is his hobby. He sells all custom made poles for cost. While he gave my my ice fishing pole, he sells them for $20. Best darn ice fishing pole I have seen.
I need some Carhart clothes. I already have warm boots. My merino wool long johns are ready to be picked up. Just need a little reel for the pole.
I am looking forward to this...

I've got at least a doz Scott. My own homemade shanty too. Made it out of the old Ronco mini skis and a pallet. Used an old tent and other than it being pretty heavy, it works just fine. I'm minutes from the Great Lakes chain of Erie, the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair and a ton of inland lakes. Makes for some great ice fishing come january!!

Sounds good, Ted. When I was in Lake Geneva, WI for military HS, there were lots o' ice fishermen. I assume it is the same for Muskegon Lake. I was kind of told I would be going ice fishing. LOL
Mike, if you need a fishing rod, let me know.

My brother in-law uses something called a sled. I think it is just a one sided thing to block the wind. You guys ever heard of this?

Yep!! It's a lean to attached to a sled. Works great if you can't afford the real thing.

He made is sound like he prefered the sled. Load it up with your gear, pull it out to where your going. But I guess you could do the same with a shanty. Or do you leave them in place?

They have portable shanty's. On a lot of lakes though, people use permanent type shanties made out of wood. They just use a snowmobile to traqnsport them.

If you ever get into it and like it, you'll have to make your way to Tip Up Town USA!! Do a search on it and you'll see how serious we take our ice fishing here in MI!!

Since I live on the west coast and have never ice fished, I used to look at people doing that and think " how stupid!" What fun could that possibly be? Then, at some point I realized, what would you spend your time doing if you weren't doing that? Probably sitting at home, watching the game on t.v. Well, if your gonna sit there and watch t.v. why not bore a hole in the floor and hook some fish your at it? Makes perfect sense. If I could cut a hole in my livingroom floor and pull fish out I'd prolly do that everyday!

We need ICE for ice fishing. Didn't have much of it this past winter...at least around here. Up north was a different story.
