here is the e-mail I just received from NYS DEC Training coordinator Long Island Region. These are the proposed dates for hunting waterfowl in NYS. They may change a bit depending on federal issues.
Dear Instructors and Waterfowlers: Attached is an announcement of the TENTATIVE schedule for most of New York's 2006-2007 waterfowl hunting seasons. The dates won't be finalized until late summer when federal regulations are official.
You'll have see one of the attached (same document, different formats) for upstate dates and other details, but FOR THE LONG ISLAND ZONE: - September Canada goose season: September 5-September 30 - Youth Waterfowl hunting weekends November 11-12 (Saturday-Sunday) - Regular duck hunting seasons: November 22 - November 26 and December 5 - January 28
Keep in mind that when hunting in September for geese, hunters need a LAST YEAR's (2005-2006) hunting license, but a NEW duck stamp, and a NEW HIP number. (In previous years, it was an old license and old HIP #, but this was changed last year so that the Federal requirements were the same.)
"Stay Tuned" for an announcement of the Youth Waterfowl Program we run in cooperation with Ducks Unlimited, SC Parks and South Shore Waterfowlers Assoc. Or, stop by one or our displays at the upcoming DU Long Island Outdoor Conservation Festival, June 10th in Flanders (call 518-488-9896 or cmgaj@yahoo.com for more info). We should have a brochure available by then with more info.
Frank.
