Maybe the perfect broadhead is not the best or maybe it is but if you were to look for a new head, what would you be looking for?. For myself The #1: Quality would have to be penetration. Without getting in there nothing else matters So maybe penetration means that the head has to have a design that lends itself to strength. O.K.....Strength is #1 ;D Penetration #2 Holding a good edge #3

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, if you have a good strong broadhead that doesen't break or crack on contact that holds a good edge then you will get the desired penetration. Therefore, IMO the list might read #1 Strength #2 Holds a good edge #3 Penetration

So is that your top three in order of prefrence? I look at a sharp edge in a double edge sword way... Too keen of an edge will lessen the streagth of the head (and therefore the edge after hard contact) as you narrow the metal to get that edge. I may be wrong , but my thinking is to get the heads itself in as a first priority . If an edge fails on a hard impact it now slows the progresstion through friction that is caused by a fouled edge. On the other hand...If we are in at a maximum penitration, the damage will be done to the soft internals enogh to inflict the desired end result. (?) (I am dead tired at midnight so please allow me some x-tra spelling errors and messed up thought patterns here )

O.K.....lets make this a broader question. If you had a broad head that had a fail rate of 5 out of 10 and a blood trail rate of 10 The second head had a fail rate of 3 out of 10 and a blood trail rate of 7 The third head had a fail rate of 1 out of 10 and a blood trail rate of 4 which would you select in a general area ? Which would you select if there was a known hog in the area? Which would you select if there was a record book in the area? Now that you have already made a decision( as you read through these choices)make a decision and then scroll down. ...have you ever seen a real monster in the woods that you didn't know was there? Would you have been ready and confident with that first choice? Now....when that hog of a buck walks into the shooting lane , are you as calm as you normally are? Are you 100% sure that this deer is not going to jump the string? What if that deer does jump the string? Has your answer changed any yet? Whats the answer?. (not a challenge...I just want you all to think it over) What was the first answer?(Honestly

I think they are all the same!!! without Strength and holding a good edge you don't get good penetration.. and penetration can be established with a feild point so I say blade construction is a huge factor! As for which head would I use in a certain situation.... I would use the same head for all! I would use the head I am most confident in and in using

I don't usually do archery hunting so my best response is 180 grain Nosler Partitions. I actually just wanted to jump into this one when I saw intruder's Cougar Flag. I bleed Crimson and am a 2nd Gen Coug. Best 6 years of my life! Kelsey www.luvtohunt.com

I will go with the strong blade design and edge that it will hold but generally those two things do not go together For a stronger blade you have to ultimately go to a thicker blade and the wider surface increases drag and decreases the angle for the edge....IE : droping the sharpness quality by comparism So its one or the other A stronger blade that wont break and will hold a good edge or a blade that can break and will hold a great edge. So which?

While your strength in the head is 1 of the main things the sharpness is up to the shooter,if someone just opens a pack and puts them on he has lost a little right there. But your penetration issue brings up 2 options, cut on impact or impact point. Which would you choose? Both will get you inside the animal, both will allow the blades to do there thing. But which 1 will lower your kenetic energy for a pass through? The cutting diameter will aid mostly in the blood trail area, so many options,,so many broadheads,,the best broadhead IMHO boils down to the 1 you are most confident with.

Give that man a prize!! I've been saying something like that for a couple of few months now!! I have my personal favorite that I'd put up against anything out there. It's a proven head for me and I've never had a reason not to believe in it. In fact, the opposite is true. It's done things I know other heads can't do (such as penetrate a steel fence post and be reused afterword!!). Personal confidence is the underlying factor in most archery equipment. ;D

WELL AS GOOD AS THAT MAY SOUND THATS NOT GENERALLY THE TRUTH. I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF POSTS OVER THE YEARS FROM PEOPLE WHO SWEAR THAT THEIR HEAD IS THE CATS BUTT AND THE ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY ARE HAVING A PROBLEM FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT THEY NEVER KNEW IF IT WAS A GOOD PRODUCT...THEY JUST ASSUMED IT ALTHOUGH MICHI. HAS SELECTED A GREAT PRODUCT...MAYBE THINK WITH THEIR EYES AND NOT THE THING BEHIND IT ;D

Well as with everything you will have people that will agree with you or with me or not at all. Now as for Michi`s Monteks? I have to say that with all things considered they have to be as close to what I could consider PERFECT as there is. Solid 1 piece construction, cut on impact for less KE loss and a good cutting diameter for opening up the insides so the blood will flow. The only down fall I see is the price,,but if they will stand up to a metal fence post I doubt a deer, turkey, elk or hog will hurt it But in fairness of a mature debatable discussion all the old broadheads from 20 years back have offered the same end result....Fresh Meat,,Don`t get me wrong BT I am not saying I have the credentials to pass judgement on what is best or worst,,but I am bad about looking into every aspect possible and finding the right path,,from the sounds of it the G5`s may be a great path to walk down. keep the old and always try the new,,if the new gets old switch back.

Yup! What you say is true for the most part and the Montec is a very good product....not perfect , but very good I am hoping the Montec design is moving forward with address being made to the ability for the average person to put an edge on this head. For that matter...have the factory do what any other manufacturer might and provide it pre-sharpened I am not looking to whoop up on every head out there but some are just superior. As to the original question...penetration is compromised as you add blades. So.... as good as any head is , it loses something for when multi blades are involved and it has to make up for it somehow. The Montec's design seems to have worked to offset this multi. factor with (as you point out)a leading edge that can cut although it is not considered a true cut on contact head.

IMO it comes down to two things.
how good are you at tracking and whats the area like?
If you are hunting an area that you could lose a house in then I would go with a quality expandable but if you can trail decent and have a fairly good area I would look at something that has about an inch diameter cutting area.

I personally lean toward the Spitfires, but only for Turkey. My confidence level falls apart thinking of using them for deer.
