This afternoon around 1pm. I went out to see if the trail cam I put out last night had any pics on it(it is in the woods by my office). Well a squirrel started barking and a turkey started gobbling at the squirrel. I just happened to have a turkey call I made out of a film canister back in Dec. in my pocket. I started calling on it and he was answering. Well, I backed out, went and got my boss and we went back over there. I called a couple of more times to try and get an exact location of where he was.
We were on a road with woods in between the turkey and us, so we made our way down a trail that led to a food plot where we found a laid over tree surrounded by brush. We set up in there to try and call him with the homemade call. Well, with every call he gobbled, every plane that flew over he gobbled, with every dump truck noise he gobbled(they are doing construction and were dumping loads of dirt). He was hot. I was yelping at him and throwing some purrs in on occasion. Once he got close enough that we could see him moving about across the food plot in the woods on that side, I started purring and putting.
There is a creek over there and I don't know if he was hung up on it or what, but it took him about 20 min. to make his way around to where we could see him in the open. He ended up laying down in the weeds and stretching his neck out trying to find us. He was roughly 45-50 yds. from us when it was all said and done. We had been there for about 30-45. min. and decided to back out and get back to work. I never did get to check the camera because he was directly across from it. I hope it snapped a pic or 2 of him, that would be great. Now all I have to do is wait until this Sat. to go get him.
