I finally got to go for a walk this afternoon along the Jefferson River where I deer hunt. I was "bustin" Whitetails like rabbits back in the pine thicket . Couldn't walk a hundred yards all afternoon without deer flying out in front of me, beside me and behind me. More deer today than I've ever seen back there. I must have spent two hours looking for shed antlers in the thicket and didn't find any. On my way back out, I walked over to the tree where I was sitting last deer season when I shot that fat little buck. No further than 12 feet away from the tree I found this old shed! I didn't see it last fall when I was hunting there. It's really old and looked like a piece of tree branch. I decided to walk along a fence line which ends up along the river bank. Where the fence makes a 90 degree angle at the edge of the river there is an opening where the deer jump the fence and then have to jump over a log right along the river bank. About 10 feet from the log and only about a foot from the bank's edge, I found this nice half of an Eight point. The brow tine is about 6 inches long . I'm going back tomorrow and do some backtracking on the trail to see if I can find the other side. BTW, this shed dosen't belong to the bigger buck that I've been seeing back there... not large enough.

The big fella must be huge then!! Ted~ Yup, the Buck I keep refering to has(or maybe by now had)a much heavier rack with a longer main frame that is set a little lower plus wider and really "jutted" out in front of his face. I though I may have seen him today off at a long distance running behind a bunch of Does in some thick stuff. The Buck that dropped the shed that I found today is gonna be "bruiser" this fall too. I'm happy to see that both this Buck and the bigger one made it through the deer seasons and winter... My hopes are high for this coming fall !

Excellent find, Scott! I've yet to come across a set yet myself, but seeing your photos makes me wanna keep my eyes peeled nonetheless. ...'slap... Slap~ Yeah, this is a lot of FUN ! I get really excited when I find one...especially when I'm "hunting" all day without any luck and then find one of these gems. Most times, this kind of hunting is a lot tougher than going after the animal itself. I consider it another part of my scouting for the following deer season. Here are some more rubs that I found in the area yesterday that I didn't find previously. I took some pic's of Whittys yesterday also. I might post them after doing some editing.
