OK, I'd better add something here...
Like SL mentioned it was really raining, but I kept remembering the 10 pointer I shot years ago in rain like that, so I was still optomistic.
We were still hunting, just driving along slowly on this road, watching the woods on either side. It had been a lonnngg day to say the least!
As we turned the corner coming up the ridge, I did see something at the edge of the road, but with all the rain on the windshield, I passed it off as just a stump or dark leaves, and continued my scan of the woods on my side of the truck.
All of a sudden the truck lurches to a stop! SL says a few choice words to let me know there's one standing up there! I look again at the spot I had seen earlier wondering if THAT'S what he was referring to in his spits and sputters. I figured I better get ready, keeping an eye on this deer. By now I too was convinced and swung the rifle up from behind the door so the deer couldn't spot my movements. I was settling on it's neck, but could see it start looking across the road and at us, and starting to look rather fidgety. Just then he stats to move and I needed to change my aim point to his ribcage to ensure a good shot.
From there everything went into high gear! It looked like a real good hit as the deer jumped and kicked as it disappeared in the brush...once we found him, SL was quite excited...I hadn't seen him like that before..not even after our moose hunt last year.
I will admit that once things settled down, I noticed I was a bit wound up as well. As I prepared to tag the deer , I noticed I was shaking It was a great hunt, and SL helped me skin the deer at my place and hang it....
P.S. Weather is too warm to hang meat in the shed...I had to take him to a butcher this a.m. I was looking forward to butchering him myself but oh well.
Frida-Saturday, it's SL's turn!!
