What shotgun to like to hunt deer with? I use a Rem 870 Express, smooth bore, 2 3/4 sluggers.

I'd like a nice 11-87 but that is a lot of money.

I have bothe the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 and they are both great guns. The Remington however is a tighter gun. No rattles and slightly better grouping. I just can't justify spending upwards of $1000 for a Benelli. But I hear they are great guns.

You can't go wrong in my opinion with the 870. And as far as paying $1000 for a gun, well I'd have to be sleeping with it.

remington 870 slug gun(rifled) open sight for deer... mossburg for turkey... m/hunter i know what ya mean by that nasty rattle from a mossy ;D the remington works so/so with 3" mags but at close range is downright nasty...same with the mossy. depending on the set up i will choose between either the 3" or a 2 and 3/4

I have a Remington 870 Express with a smooth slug barrel. A Remington 870 Mag, with a cantilever barrel with a rifled tube. It is topped with a Bushnell 1.75x5 scope. These have been my 2 deer guns forever. This year I will be hunting with my TC Encore. with a fully rifled barrel. It has a Leupold 2x7x32 Vari-X 2 scope on it.

How's the Leupold hold on that smokepole tedicast!! Actually...The Leupold is mounted on the 12 gauge, fully rifled slug barrel. Seems to be holding up perfectly. The Encore with a slug barrel is a mean kicking gun. A ton worse than my 870's. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40 mounted on my Encore ml'er barrel. That also has held up perfectly. I only shoot 100 grains from it, so it is fairly mild recoiling.

Thanks for the clarification. I know those TCE's are a bear with recoil. Great guns though. In the past, I've heard they have loosened up many a scope. Thanks for the reassurance in the leupold product.

For my birthday this year, I went out and spent way too much money on myself buying a shotgun almost identical to this: Beretta White Onyx Sporting. 12 ga., 30" barrel.

Gotta love those 870's. I think for the price you can't beat them. I know I paid $300 for mine with both barrels. Good Ole Wally World.
