Thanks Ted, that is interesting, and a little disturbing. I guess I'm wasting my time going hunting, it appears that we don't have any deer here in Indiana. Didn't make the list.

You can always make the trip north. Seems like there's enough here for everyone according to those stats!!

They say that half the herd here in MI (1.8 million) is in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula. So they're already making their way towards you Mike. Used to be no one hunted that area too much and the Northern LP was hunt heaven. But the times have changed. I've been working OT trying to obtain permission to hunt the southern border, but leases are plum crazy and no ones gioving permission.

It's the same way around here. I cannot find anywhere close to hunt. Leases are just too high and no one will give you permission. I have to reley on co-workers and all of them live at least an hour away. Oh well, it's better than not having anyplace at all.

Ok michi, I'm headed out this weekend, I hope you have sent some of them deer my way. After all you got 193/1000 and here in Indiana we apparently have 0/1000.

They're on the way Mike!! But you realize that if you get one now, you'll have to share some straps with the Pied Piper that sent them your way!! ;D ;D

yall need to come down to Tennessee where for years we had it made with cheap $25 a year permits to hunt 1,000 to 1000,000 acre champion and westvaco timber lands but now they are closing down and if you don't have private land you have to hunt wildlife refuge where there are 100 hunters for every 1 deer

kg- It's getting that way everywhere!! It's only a matter of time here in Michi that the sateland is gone. We have a considerable amount right now, but it's going quick. They're talking about selling a bunch off right now in order to cut the deficit. Should get pretty interesting in the next few years!!

our state wildlife management areas are in no danger at the moment we have people donating land through land trusts that is helping our WMA grow but we had lots of land owned by scott paper and champion plywood and westvaco timber co that they are selling some of these areas were 30-50 thousand acre tracts that you could hunt by buying $25 dollar permits at the local bait shop check-in stations but on the WMA's no 4 wheelers kinda keeps the hunters close to the roads and it seems real crowded and i think real dangerous .

I think if you meet up with someone else from Maine you will find someone (besides myself )who is going to be slack jawed when they hear thier states deer/human scale LOL! If there were that many deer in Maine there wouldnt be room for the bear ;D There may be that many bear per. person but not deer ...........not now , not ever
