Mine is a Remington 870 12ga. We can't use a rifle to hunt deer. So I don't even own one. Yet.... ;D

I have not hunted with a rifle or shotgun, but I am seriously looking into a H&R Ultra Slug Hunter, 12 Gauge. I live right on the rifle/shotgun boundry, so I want one gun for both areas. Who knows...I may just stay with my bow for next season & the next & the next...

Nice Bullet.
I'd like to have a couple more guns, but I can't hunt with them, and I don't really have anywhere to just shoot them. So I can't justify buying any.
Someday. ;D

Nice looking guns there bullet. Weatherby was suggested to me if I was to purchase a rifle, but after looking over their site and calling the sales department: they don't make LH rifles.

.50 cal Savage 10ML for deer mainly because muzzleloaders are the only legal "rifle" to hunt deer with here in Indiana. After using a smokeless powder muzzle loader a few years there is NOTHING else I would want to deer hunt with.
Ruger 10-22T for squirrel

Up here we use our scatter guns for game birds and such , but the rifle get used the most . I have two 12 gun cabinets that are pretty much full ! Scott if your looking for a left handed rifle - check out the Browning A -Bolt or Remington . Both are great rifles ! I also shoot left handed but I prefer a right handed rifle . I just have to watch the stock design ! Regards Bullet

Hey bullet, Growing up I always shot RH long guns. Honestly, the only reason I was considering a LH long gun was it was suggested by many in another hunting forum. I was considering a Savage rifle at one point. They offer many styles in LH. What are your thoughts on the H&R Ultra Slug Hunter?

Winchester Model 70 chambered in 300 Winchester Magnum for large critters with a 165 grain Hornady SST handload. For small critters ,yotes in particular it is a Weatherby chambered in 223 Remington with a 40 grain VMAX handload. For 2 legged varmints it`s a SIG P229 chambered in 40 Smith and Wesson... ;D

The price isn't to bad either . Those new savages are nice rifles as well . Well worth the money . Before you buy a left handed spend some time with one to see if it feels right to you . That is my problem with them is that they just don't feel right to me , after so many years of using a right handed rifle . What caliber were you thinking about ? Regards Bullet

If I was going rifle, I was looking at either .30-06 (about the highest caliber needed in Michigan) or a .338 WinMag. I will take your advice and try the feel of a LH first, if I get a rifle. Right now, the slug gun gives me more areas to hunt during gun season.

Its great you can load it down for preditors and back up for Big game . I use pretty much always 165.gr bullets in mine for deer - bear - moose and I have taken buffalo with the same load . 338 win mag is a good gun if you are going to hunting in Grizzlie country on a regular bases . But It think you will enjoy the '06 ! I do ! Just make sure you get the longest barrel possible 24" is good . Stay away from the shorter barrels . Regards Bullet

I use a Remington 700 in .270 and a Winchester model 94 .30-30. Sweet looking shooting iron Doc ! Love the camo work ! Regards Bullet Thanks. It is cloth camo tape. Been on there for 2 years now and still going strong. I am going to get the front and rear sight removed and the holes filled in. It is hard to see them with the scope on anyway so I dont use them. I am going to change out the Simmons scope for a Leupold sometime this year. I lowered the trigger pull myself down to about 2-2.5lbs. with a smidge of creep. Once you get past the 1/16th to 1/8th inch creep, hang on because it is ready to rock. I am using Hornady's Custom Factory ammo in 140gr. SST. It is a tack driver.

I was looking for better groups and bought a box of the 140's, it was the first box the guy grabbed. I carried them to the range and went from about a 2.5-3" group to less than an inch. When I shot it before hunting season, I shot a 5 shot group and they all touched. If I would have had a vise I probably could have put them all in the same hole or close to it. As the old saying goes, "If it aint broke, dont fix it". That is a nice piece of shooting equipment you have there. Beautiful actually. I dont mind the creep, if I decide not to take the shot for one reason or another, I have an indicator of how close I am to firing. I did have the trigger pull lighter, but after shooting 10 rounds or so, it would fire when I flipped the safety off. I didnt like that so I made it a little heavier.

My big Fav. is the .243 but I dont hunt anything larger than deer Its just a great all around caliber for anything ,from woodchucks to bear. Its also a good caliber for kids since it allows them to make ethical kills while not getting beat up on the recoil side. JMHO

Bowtech , I agree with you on a 243 Win.My son has a 243 Win , a Rem870 20 gauge and an old Glenfield model 60 22 lr that he learned to shoot with.He is 12 and been shooting it since he was 10.It has given him confidence with a centerfire rifle without the recoil of a larger hard kicking rifle. He will shoot my 25-06,223 Ackley,223 Rem but he always reaches for his rifle when its time to deer or coyote hunt. I would not hesitate to shoot any deer with a 243.As long as you put it in the heart lung area, its gonna be a dead deerMy cousin has a real nice blackbear mount he killed ,one shot from his 243 while he was deer hunting and the bear showed up..One of my best friends has a room full of trophy boar hog mounts and trophy class whitetails , all killed with a 243... I prefer a 308 Win most of the time for my type of deer hunting but a lil 243 is a hard rascal to beat in the deer woods..
