Tonight I made a STS system for my Storm, I hear everyone talking about how well these work and help silence the bow and string vibrations. I took an old cable guard rod that was threaded on 1 end, my bow has a threaded hole behind my stabilizer on the back of the riser so I measured from the riser to the string and then put a rubber chair leg boot on the rod and cut to length. I set it so it is 1/16 of an inch away from the string. I am going to give it a whirl tomorrow and see how it works. i53.photobucket.com/albums/g75/hoosieroutdoorsman/STS1.jpg

I thought that thing was quiet and vibration free already Tracy? Why the modification?

It has a little vib to it,,but it is near zero,,figured I would try this and see how it works,,plus is a way to field test the STS and do a possible review? Without spending the bucks on it. If it does take what little vibration this has out then I am sure it would work on a bow with alot of Vib.

My STS took whatever little bit of vibration there was in my Switchback away. She is a very quiet shooter. I did not make my own, though.

I'd like to see a chrono reading to see if the no follow through with the string has any effect . I can't imagine that it does but stranger things have happened.

I had wondered the same thing Ted,,was planning on taking some readings B4 and after,,I kind of wondered if maybe it may up the speed? With stopping the string with the arrow still on it maybe it will give it a push? Or a slingshot kind of action? Will be checking that out after I get some of my honeydo`s done

Well even though I am a major DIY guy,,I will say there is no substitute for the origonal in this case,,lol. It isn`t as simple a set up as it looks,,but had to try it

It was noisier and more shock than before,,LOL. I guess thats what I get for using a rubber chair leg boot? I think the STS boots are alot thicker and most likely made of a better class of rubber.

Or possibly a bowstring isn't supposed to stop so suddenly? I p3ersonally feel there are better ways to suppress vibration and noise than abruptly stopping a string. Whether it's effective or not, I won't use one. Strings, limbs and bearings are just too expensive to take a chance on that kind of sudden stop. Many people swear by it and I myself have supported it on occasion. But as I said, I believe there are other ways that won't put your equipment through as much stress as a STS does. In my opinion of course!! ;D

I am shooting a Mathews Outback. I thought this bow was extremely quiet, and shock free. for my birthday this past January, my bro got me an STS. I installed it and I was amazed at the difference. It took me a little getting used to the change in balance, but I think it was a change for the better. As for the chrono reading, there was absolutely no chance in speed with or without the sts.
