I'm starting to see a lot of post about Ice fishing on other boards, anyone gotten out yet? I'm hearing that around here the ice is averaging around 3-4 inches.

I don't blame you there. I wouldn't be looking to join the Polar Bear Club. ;D Certainly not in a Carhart suit. I almost did that in the harbor at Salem, MA during the original "Storm of the Century." Seas were running 6 to 8 feet in the harbor. I was fixing a dock line that had snapped on a boat. When a wave came and rocked the boat so hard I slid down the bow on 14" of snow heading for the water when a piece of seizing wire from an anchor went through my suit and into my arm, stopping me from taking a trip to Davy Jones locker. That is one scar I like seeing on my arm.

We are having a temporary warm up here. It has been in the mid 30s here all day. Lots of melting going on...as far as snow goes. The freeze line on our town lake has receded some. Not sure about any inland lakes.

Of course, I talk about the warmth and my local paper has pic of some guys at the far eastern end of Muskegon Lake catching fish and saying it is 4" thick. Later in the sports section they do tell people to be careful, use a spud and common sense, since several people have fallen through already.

Ice is virtually non-existant in the lower peninsula, but there is fantastic walleye and pike fishing out on Muskegon Lake...but my friends with boats have them laid up for winter. I might have to try surf casting...

I have not been out in three years With the warming trend we are lucky to have a couple of weeks on the larger central state lakes and I always miss it. This year even the small ponds are open. Not a good year at all

Unless weather patterns change, there won't be any ice fishing in the lower peninsula either. A quick check of the weeks weather shows, except for today, temps will be above freezing through Sunday.

Darn shame Ice fishing is one of the best outdoor sports for young kids. Yeah, my son enjoys being outside here. Something he didn't do a lot when we lived in Chicago. Hopefully winter will return to normal soon. It's the 25th of January already!

I went ice fishing once, I broke 15 ice hammers and still didn't get the boat off the trailer.

The village idiot was snowmobiling along the edge of a lake when he came upon another idiot standing on the bank , casting a lure out onto the ice.
Curious , he stopped and asked what the other was up to.
Ice fishing was the reply , with a big toothy smile.
The other replied with disgust..."you cant catch a fish that way!....jump on back and we'll troll ;D

Ice fishing WOW!!!! Haven't been on the ice for years, Last time was 1977 with my Grandfather, That was the last time he was able to go before he passed away. He always walked in front of me, saying "If the ice breaks I'll go in not you" He also carried a pint of good old Vodka he said it would keep him warm, and the bones moving. ;D Till this day I still miss my Grandfather if it wasn't for him I may not be so involved in fishing. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS, TJ

Wow, 2ft, that is still a bunch.
I think you are our first to catch any fish through the ice this year. Winter was just too mild for most of us.
We love to see some pictures if you have any to share.
