Well YankeeRebel wrote this story for me & it goes like this ;
Y'all gotta hear the story on BOWKILLER's 10 Pointer. After he shot his 7 pointer he re-nocked another arrow and sat back down. Well then the Big 10 came in and BOWKILLER put a Muzzy in him too.
Well then after I shot my 7 Pointer I called BOWKILLER on his cell phone,and he told me what had happen on his side of the woods. I told him I shot a Lil' 7 pointer too. He said cool and that he was fixin' to gut his 7 Pointer but he couldn't find the Big One that he shot. I said well don't worry I'm sure we'll find it.
We met up on the edge of the woods after gutting our 7 pointers and loaded them up and I said man we need to get a 4 wheeler cause this draggin' deer is kickin' my butt. And said yea no doubt. BOWKILLER has one but like 25 miles away. We loaded up BOWKILLER's 7 Pointer. My 7 Pointer was on the other side of the woods. Anyway way we went to a neighbors of mine that lives across from where we were hunting and asked for help finding this deer and they had a Lil' Honda 3 wheeler to help drag out our remaining 2 Deer. They were more than happy to help out and they showed us a way to where we could drive my Ol' Chevy truck back there where we were hunting. So we headed out to find BOWKILLER's 10 Pointer and load up my 7 pointer.
Well then it gets interesting. We went to the last known area of the Blood Trail on BOWKILLER's 10 Pointer and we were down to 2 flashlights between 2 of us. It was rough and to make matters worse the Blood Trail came to an end. And with no 10 Pointer to be found!!! I'm sure BOWKILLER was playing the shot over and over in his mind. Cause he kept saying he couldn't have ran far cause I know it was a GOOD HIT. I assured him if it was we will find him.
We were beginning to give up hope. All 4 of us had made big sweeps in the direction it appeared the Big Boy had gone and man there was nothin'. It was heartbreaking. So I told BOWKILLER we can either go get some more lights and come back and search more or return in the morning get a fresh start on it in Daylight. He chose to wait till morning. We were both exhausted. So we all went back to my truck and we drove across the field where I left my lil' 7 Pointer and loaded him up and we left. We stopped at the neighbors as he pulled in on his 3 wheeler and we gave our thanks on their efforts of helping us. They wished us luck for in the morning and we took our 2 7 Pointers to my Processor and got them in a cooler. I told BOWKILLER we'll have better luck in the mornin'.
The next mornin' was a beautiful mornin' to be trackin' deer. There was a slight frost on the ground and a chill in the air. Me and BOWKILLER knew we were gonna be a crossing a creek and we both came prepared with our Rubber Boots. I had on an old Pair of Rocky's that had cracked from from old age but I didn't dream they would leak near as bad as they did when we crossed that creek. We crossed that creek and I was cussing cause one my boots literally filled with water!! Anywho...... We got back on the last known Blood Trail area and went back to lookin'. It was almost the same as the night befor. NOTHIN"!!!!! We looked everywhere!!! I even walked an opposite direction thinkin' the Big 10 had turned and went the other way without bleeding. There wasn't NOTHIN"!!! It was heartbreaking. We spent 2 hours and didn't nothin' to go on with. I said well BOWKILLER I guess you chalk this one up on the one that got away. And he said yea I guess so. I said I'm sorry buddy but we did the best we could. He said yes we did.
So we went back to the Creek Crossing and I was lookin' for a better place to cross cause my boots still had water in them from the first time we crossed. So I looked one way and seen no better crossing and then I looked the other way and I seen a log Jam that we could cross without getting in the water. So we walked down there and as I stepped onto a log to start across I looked down and there was BLOOD!!! I said," BLOOD!!!!". BOWKILLER said,"REALLY?". I said yep. And a good Blood Trail too. That Big 10 pointer had came back to the creek and then walked away from that crossing and crossed over that log jam. We were both pumped. We were back on the Blood Trail!!!!
This Big Boy was a smart cookie. He took us thru a lil' stretch of woods that was thick and the whole time bordering this creek. There was alot of hiding places a Big Ol' Buck could hide here. But he was bleeding out with no where to go but to a place to bed down. The Big Boy crossed the creek again but this time he didn't lose us. It looked as though as he was heading to where I had my treestand located. We were hot on the Blood Trail. It seemed we took turns pointing and saying,"BLOOD:. And then I heard BOWKILLER say, " THERE HE IS!!!!!!!!". I think I was more excited than BOWKILLER cause I started whoopin' and Hollarin' and high fiving BOWKILLER!!!!! There the Big 10 Pointer lay. Man what a hunt!!! I shook hands with BOWKILLER and said Congratulations Kevin we found him man and Nice shootin' brother.
We both agreed if it weren't for my Ol' Holey Rocky Rubber boots we probably would have never had found this awesome Buck. It is certainly gonna be a story to tell the grandchildren and a memory that will last a lifetime. Nice shootin' BOWKILLER and it couldn't of happened to a nicer guy. I'm glad to have ya as a hunting buddy and friend.
Pics of the 7 pointer that should have came in second [ he would have walked on if that had happened ]
Wrong date on my camera !!
